Q: Since you started in the industry, what’s something that’s surprised you or challenged you the most, and how has SurfacePrep/Hodge Clemco helped you grow through that?
In 15 years of working here, one thing that stands out is how consistently busy it has always been; there has rarely been a quiet moment. It’s a real can-do environment, where colleagues are always willing to step in and support each other when needed.

Q: Is there a particular project you’ve worked on that you’re especially proud of or learned a lot from?
Among our work, some projects stand out as a particularly challenging achievement. They presented a number of obstacles but also provided valuable learning along the way. Despite the difficulties, we successfully delivered the installation. It demonstrated that when situations are not straightforward, we remain committed as a company by working through challenges, listening closely, and doing what it takes to get the job done.
Q: When working with customers, is there a tip or piece of advice you often share to help them get the best outcome from a design or solution?
When you receive a general arrangement drawing, ensure you are satisfied with it and approve the layout as soon as possible. This allows us to begin processing the order without delay.
Q: What do you enjoy doing when you're not working? Are there any hobbies or interests that help you unwind?
I enjoy live music and try to attend as many gigs as I can, although not as many as I would like.
Q: What kind of feedback do you usually hear from customers or colleagues about your work or approach?
In many projects, minimal calls suggest that equipment installations are running smoothly and that customers are happy with the results once completed. We often receive great feedback, particularly on our bespoke solutions and the quality of installation work done by our engineers.
Q: How do our processes go above and beyond when it comes to designing new equipment?
Each project is assigned to one of three design engineers within the department. We use a combination of 3D and 2D CAD software to share information effectively with both customers and suppliers. From the outset, we aim to work closely with the customer, often starting with a site survey. This allows us to build a strong working relationship, ensuring clear communication and setting the foundation for a successful project and installation.
